Who the hell is Hell On Wings

  • Rating: 5 after 1 vote
Okay. I started this discussion more or less as a diary or journal for my own progress on our latest projects. There is some personal insight into why the hell I do this; it ain't for the money, that's for sure, it ain't because it's an easy job, in fact, music is the hardest job I've ever done, much harder than Engineering, Law, or Medicine. Certainly harder than bricklaying or roofing [which I have done!]. They say the average rock band player makes $43k a year; wow! I'd love to be making that much! Okay, I do get royalty checks every month from ASCAP, however, even they cheat me out of half of my royalties, oh, and a 'P.S.' they damn well know it, right up to Marilyn Bergman and Jimmy Jam!

So, my immediate goal is to make enough to live on, a little comfortably, yeah, because I simply can't do any other at this point in my life!

"Get a real job!" Shit, if this ain't my real job then the whole planet is phoney! As soon as someone says this to me they go on my "ignorant, uneducated, serf list!" As if Bono's job isn't real? Come on, person, do you actually think about what comes out of your mouth before you open it or are you just a TVZoid Rhombic Repeater of Stocked Responses of the Hypnotized led by the Blind?

This ain't easy, and if you can do this job, then, and only then, do you have the right to tell me to get a real job, but even then I won't! I am real! Very real!

"I bleed on stage and that's what people pay to see." because they are so forbidden from having emotions and feelings, they cry with me, they laugh with me, they love with me, I love them; what the hell more could I ask for out of a job?

I live this! Do you get it? These songs aren't just created by rote, storyboard, or formula, I live it all and sing about it; I take on all the scourging so that others don't have to. Do you get it!

If you like the music, Jesus, let me know!

About "Angel"

One of my Angels is doing 2 da 4 for Trespassing! Let me tell you something about our legal system, it sucks to high Heaven! If you get caught in it, they're gonna fuck ya, okay?

Trespassing, for Christ's sake, is a $25.00 fine, not 4 fucking years in jail!

Meanwhile, Philadelphia, the world's most corrupt city which drops bombs and dissenters, hasn't found one of the 440 murderers last year; it's just easier for the DA and the cops to pick on little girls, turn them into criminals with coercion, torture, and plea bargains, than to face a homicidal maniac with a gun, oh shit! Why! The cop might get shot or killed, he might do his job, but lose his 120% pension! After all, the average cop in Philly weighs 300 lbs and couldn't chase a turtle! Donuts for cops in Philly should be outlawed.

Since I'm on the platform, why is it also that all the drug dealers in Philly know beforehand when they're going to be raided and thus hole up in a hotel somewhere? Could it be that someone on the Narcotics Squad is being bribed? You bet!

This is what Hell On Wings is about: Exposing your ass Philadelphia! So the whole world can see just how crooked your really are. Maybe, just maybe, the F.B.I. will start looking at you and we'll get at least an half honest city government. I love Philly, but I don't like what has happened to the Grand Dame of America.

In fact, it's why my music is so pissed off!

I can't take the courtruption anymore! Get it! "Courtruption" put that in your Funk and Wagnalls!

About "I Bin Had [Prelude: Death Of Love]"

This is my favorite Grunge/Punk/Rock/Metal/Death Metal/Goth/Screamo song!

This is the first song I can find in the Screamo genre, and it was done long ago, before the genre existed. I owe the voice to Bruce Tergeson who simply was not satisfied with my melodic and sonorous tonings, not at all; Bruce forced me to force it all out, he got out of me what no other could, "Scream the pain damnit!" I did and a lot of people have been doing it ever since. But I'm pretty sure I'm the first in Screaming, maybe it was Led Zep too, whom I love, but they didn't quite do it in the same range, the alto and baritone range.

So a whole damn new voicing was born in this song; it stands at the top of the charts today with everyone from NickelBack to 3 Doors Down, and of course my latest favorite Evanescence, an amazing band with amazing songs!

In fact, they're all amazing, and I stand in awe of their performances. Oh would I love to work with these people!

About "Mad Passionate Love"

This is probably the most beautiful song I've ever written [and performed!]

When we recorded it, at Creative Energy Recording Studios in Bergen, New Jersey, across the 33rd Street bridge/tunnel from the city I love, New York City, with Hit Factory Engineer Bruce Tergeson, and Les Ledo who is the very best studio owner in the whole damn world(!) [and you to Les Jr.], after all the drums were done by Kevin Johnson of IROC and Rock McCarter also of IROC, with the whole crew helping on the backup vocals, roadies and truck drivers included, and I got to the point where I sing the Master Vocal, at the very end of the recording sessions, there was not a single dry eye in the whole place. Again, in Amsterdam, at Bob's Youth Hostel, there was not a dry eye in the whole cafe downstairs. It is just an amazing song that brings out memories and consequently tears from everyone that sees it performed.

I never really realised this about this song until it was point out to me with "Terry, they are all crying, look! There is something magical about this song." Indeed, it is magical. I never knew I could have this affect on an audience, didn't know what it was doing, until I looked out into the audience to see all the tears that were being shed for it, for that love that you must have "just one more time," for that someone everyone has that they never want to let go. If this song doesn't touch you, you're dead!

I love the ideas and similarities of modern bands, such as Evanescence, 3 Doors Down, Breaking Benjamin [who are from my home state of Pennsylvania, by the way!], and all the others listed on the "Who We Sound Like" pages.

See the next entry on "I Bin Had [Prelude: Death Of Love]" to see where all these modern sounds have been influenced by yours truly.

Hard to believe that Rolling Stone is publishing such crap these days. I remember when the stone held to at least the standard of not being such a whore for the clique crowd. Children of stars have nothing whatsoever to sing about until they become fallen and no one really likes to see that, their decent into drugs, sex, and the sleazy music industry. However, Billy, if you want to sacrifice your offspring only they could stop you. It seems they don't want to and so the stereotypical "I'll do anything for a buck and attention" rednecky tradition of Pittsburgh Mountain continues. Placement of that much advertising does not come cheap and I'll bet daddy is dipping into those deep C&W pockets. Now his son? Disney? Synthed out music? A friend of mine who lives on top of Signal Mountain got it right when he wrote the song "White Trash With Money."

I called the F.B.I. today about Fox Films stealing [Copyright Infringing] our songs. It seems that the old Harry Fox Agency and the National Music Publishers Association which Harry Fox owns and controls, to this day, are still hard at work stealing from songwriters. Add to that the same rules to join the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences [N.A.R.A.S. aka "The Grammies"] came from Harry Fox and you see how the old Fox family set up an empire to steal, steal, steal. In order to get a Grammy, you have to join the Grammies and in order to join the Grammies you have to have 6 Major Label releases. Now that is monopoly and insider cliquing at its finest. Most of you don't know that until you kiss the Majors ass, especially Fox, you ain't gettin no Grammy no way! But Fox Films, and in particular Chris Columbus, John Hughes, and John Williams have committed Criminal Copyright Infringement and we don't believe they should be exempt from incarceration simply because they are rich and famous. The F.B.I. is going to love this hands-down case.

Here is the problem: Fox Films and ASCAP do not require anything other than the publisher's or film company's word that they own the rights to a song. And both do this on purpose, knowing full well that they are going to make a fortune in illegal publishing royalties, just like in the old days. Both need some hard jail time.

We're going to insist that these most rich and famous of all songwriters get that jail time.

Copyright is superior to Copyright Law. In the United States of America Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Paragraph 8, Congress has the power . . .

"To promote the useful Arts and Sciences by granting, for limited times, to Authors and Inventors, the exclusive Right to their respective Creations and Discoveries."

Copyright is so important that it is a Cornerstone of our Contsitution, and the removal of any Cornerstone is the demise of the entirety of the document. Therefore, Copyright is above even the Bill of Rights and all Titled Law, no subsequent law can serve any purpose that is detrimental or goes against the foundation of the law, which is the Constitution. Therefore both Fox and ASCAP are holding the U.S. Constitution in complete contempt and they deserved to be treated no less than any common traitor to America.

Their actions are despicable.

This time, this time, this time, they are going to be held accountable.

Breaking: Anya Marina

**Who:** Anya Marina, a pixie-ish Michigan-born California gal who ditched a sputtering film career (*100 Girls*, anyone?) to become a local disc jockey. Honing her songwriting chops by immersing herself in music all day allowed her to claim the San Diego local open-mike crown; a song on the *Grey's Anatomy* soundtrack called "Miss Halfway" scored her a national audience. **Sounds Like:** The dozen songs on *Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II* are a mixture of Liz Phair sex appeal and Boswell Sisters cabaret with a dash of Jung. "You can have a side to you that's overt and raw, but usually it's reserved for the bedroom or your innermost thoughts of your mind," she tells *Rolling Stone*. "Some artists are used to going there and that's part of their shtick. I didn't want to put on airs." She credits the intensity of her singing on "Afterparty At Jimmy's" to turning out the lights in the studio and taking her shirt off. "It was fun; it was nice." **Vital Stats:** • Marina's father is a Jungian psychologist who, instead of asking how her homework was coming along, would probe her about how her relationships were developing. If he were to ask her that question today, the answer would apparently be: slowly. Marina was recently on her fifth date with a guy who was trying to talk through why things weren't working out between them. "It was a fucking three-hour long conversation," she says. "I'm thinking 'dude, you've never even tried to kiss me and we're talking about why we're not dating.' Sometimes you can't talk it out. Just shut the fuck up and throw me on the bed."

Hype Monitor: Hatcham Social, Benjy Ferree and Cynic

*Every week, Hype Monitor wades through the most buzzed-about bands all across the Internet to find the ones you need to hear now.* **The Band:** Hatcham Social **The Buzz:** U.K. outfit revives the old sound of Scotland, bringing back clanging chords, loose percussion and loopy vocals. **Listen If:** For you, Orange Juice is more than just a morning beverage. **Key Track:** "Wild Creatures," where swooping vocals run loop-de-loops around vibrant, violent guitars. **The Band:** Benjy Ferree **The Buzz:** Weirdo concept rock from D.C., big banging guitars and huff-n-puff vocals, like Broadway gone bonkers. **Listen If:** Your chief requirement for pop music is unpredictability. **Key Track:** "Dog Killers," a big, noisy rave-up wrapped up in grainy, grimy guitars.

Breaking: Vivian Girls

Who: The Vivian Girls, three Brooklyn-via-New Jersey gals who went from forming to opening for Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo to landing on year-end critics' list in just over a year. Sounds Like: With 10 songs clocking in under 25 minutes, their debut album is a flash flood of surf punk, girl group croon and heavy reverb. Inspirations like the Wipers, Nirvana and the Shangri-La's are evident on songs like the poppy but abrasive "Going Insane" and super-catchy "Where Do You Run To." "When we started out, we just wanted to be a really, really fast band with really short songs," guitarist-singer Cassie Ramone jokes. "That was our original game plan. Now we're trying to write songs that are longer than two minutes. We're aiming for two-and-a-half minute songs." Vital Stats: • Ramone and bassist Kickball Katy formed the band in 2007 after first meeting in high school. "We met at a Weezer concert," Ramone says. They recently recruited Katy's college friend Ali Koehler to step in as drummer. Cassie Ramone got her nom de rock after what she calls an obsession with the Ramones' Rock N Roll High School, while Katy's nickname has a more mysterious origin. "In 2002, I went to college and joined the Super Secret Kickball Society," Katy says. "But I can't talk about it."

Glasvegas Douse Nirvana's "Come As You Are" in Fuzzy Drone on New Cover

Scottish band to watch Glasvegas know how to drone, and they do it well on this new cover of Nirvana's "Come As You Are." If you've ever wanted to hear the Nevermind track on 'ludes, now is your chance: the quartet slow the tempo without sacrificing the song's drama, amping up the reverb without losing their guitars in mush. Check it out here: [Listen]
